The Narrator says: When we gathered (at Ghadeer e Khum), He (Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: Do I not have more authority over you then yourselves. Then we said Yes, O Messenger of Allah. Then he said, Do I not have more authority over you then your mothers? We said, Yes O Messenger of Allah. Then he asked – Do I not have more authority over you then your fathers? We said, Yes, O Messeger of Allah. Then he said, Do I not have authority? Do I not have authority? Do I not have authority? Then we said, Yes, O Messenger of Allah.

Then he said – Of Whomsoever I am Master, then Ali is his Master. O Allah! Love him who loves Ali and bear enmity with one who bears enmity to Ali.

The narration goes on to mention that Umar bin Khattab went on to congratulate Ali (as) and said – Congratulations to you, O son of Abi Talib. This day you have become the master of all believers.

Muhammad bin Ja'far narrated to us, that Shu'ba related to them from Abi Ishaaq, that the latter said: "I heard Sa'id bin Wahab saying: 'Ali appealed to the people [to attest his appointment by the prophet as His successor]. Hence five or six companions of the prophet – peace and salutation of Allah be upon him – stood up and bore witness that the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutation of Allah be upon him - said: "Of whomsoever I am the master, then Ali is his master."

Ali bin Muhammad narrated to us, that Abu Mu’awiyah related to them, that Musa bin Muslim was reporting to them from Abi Sabit {who is Abd al-Rahman), who reported Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas saying:
‘Mu’awiyah arrived [in Mecca] during one of his pilgrimages. Accordingly, Sa’d [bin Abi Waqqas] came to see him, and they happened to mention Ali. He [Mu’awiyah] thus diminished Ali. As a result, Sa’d got angry and said: ‘You are speaking of this man! I have heard the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutation of Allah be upon him - declare: ‘Of whosoever I am the master, then Ali is his master.

I have [also] heard him saying: “You [Ali] are to me in position what Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophet after me". And I have heard him announcing: ‘Today I am indeed going to hand over the banner to a person who loves Allah and his Messenger".

Traveling with the Messenger of Allah [s], we stopped at the pond of Khumm and the Prophet [s] sent someone to call upon people to gather. When we came together he said: ‘Do I not have more right with you than your own selves?’ We said: ‘Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!’ He continued: ‘Do I not have more right with you than your mothers?’ We said: ‘Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!’ He continued: ‘Do I not have more right with you than your fathers?’ We replied: ‘Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!’ He kept asking ‘Do I not have’, and we kept answering ‘Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!’ He concluded: ‘To whoever I am his master, ‘Ali is his master. O' God, love those who love him, and be hostile to those who are hostile to him.’ 'Umar b. al-Khattab said: ‘Congratulations O Ibn Abi Talib, today you have become the master of every believer.’
